And now it's back to school, but "I don't wanna go!" That's me whining, not the kids. To be honest, I really enjoyed the break from the routine, the coursework, the lesson planning, the teaching. It was nice just to be mom - not teacher.
This year, my daughter is memorizing the Ten Commandments... "Remember the sabbath day and keep it holy." The sabbath day comes once each week. As I jump back in to our school routine, I realize I've not been doing a good job of keeping that commandment.
Yes, we attend church every weekend. It's an awesome way to kick off the week. But, it's often sandwiched between commitments, work, responsibilities and grocery shopping. Rarely, do we take a day just to pause and reflect on God's glory or rest in His peace.
This Christmas break, we unplugged. We slowed down. We appreciated. We honored. Maybe, just maybe, God knew what He was talking about when he gave Moses those stone tablets. I think, as this new year begins, I will protect my sabbath more - and appreciate the life God has given me.
