Daisy is teaching me another aspect of God's love: His protection. Early one recent morning, Daisy was sleeping at my feet when she suddenly bolted upright, growling low. I woke up just enough to notice Rob was already awake. I rolled over and pulled the pillow over my head. Daisy continued to growl, so I got up.

Heading downstairs, I saw Daisy's little friend, Emmett. She heard Emmett's "dad" dropping him off for a day of doggie sitting. No worries. I gave my husband a quick greeting and crawled back under the warm covers.
Today, our heating system is being replaced. Daisy hears the noise that shouldn't be here and growls low. Large thunks and clangs send her into hysterical barking. She is doing her doggie best to keep me safe from whatever evil lurks nearby. I reassure her, but she remains vigilant. She knows what isn't typical around here, and she's going to make sure I know it too. Annoying today, yes.
But, God is using her to remind me that He wants to guard my heart the same way my sweet Daisy guards our home. The only difference is that sometimes I ignore God. I don't think that's a good thing.
My prayer today is that when God growls a low warning, I wouldn't pretend I don't hear Him, but would respond the same way I do to Daisy. Listening. Appreciating the safety offered. Responding.
Lord, let my heart hear You. And help me to listen.
Amen

Hi Karen! Great blog! Dogs are amazing to teach us unconditional love and joy too! I don't think I could live without my two yorkies and I thank God every day for them and how they are such healers in my day to day life!
Ahh...listening to Him and responding obediently is a daily challenge for many, myself included. It's good that you recognize His growl. Remember, He does ask us to step out of our comfy place, but He always rewards us for our obedient efforts.
Blessings,
~Rosann
Oh, yes, it is hard to listen for God's "growl," isn't it? What a great prayer and a great reminder! (I don't own a dog, but your Daisy looks just too sweet!)
How sweet. Our animals are so special and such a blessing. We have a miniature schnauzer, and we have had him for eleven years ago :)
Great post karen and thanks for sharing :)
Michelle :)
I love it...a sermon from the dog (I've had LOTS!) Isn't is extraordinary that God send His message to us in so many ways?
Peace and good (to you AND Daisy)
I have a new way of looking at my dog's barks. And she does it a lot!
I love my dog and am thankful for her every day!
Wonderful message, once again!

God really works in mysterious ways.. great to know that you have managed to learn so much from your pets.
What a beautiful way to see God's love -through our pets. I have often considered how happy our dog is to see us when we get home, even if we have only been gone an hour, how wonderful if we could show that excitement to others, especially God.
Karen....so glad to find your blog! Thanks for visiting mine! I love what you say here...how many times a day do I ignore what God is saying, or warning. I am so thankful for His protection! I desire to be obedient, but oh how my arrogance can get in the way!
