Super Bowl 2012!

Here it comes, the big game: New England Patriots and the New York Giants. It's an east coast battle for the Vince Lombardi Trophy. No matter where you live, odds are, you know about this game. You'll probably watch it, if only for the commercials. Seriously, 111 million people tuned in for Super Bowl 2011, the most watched show ever!

And the food.... Will you be noshing on nachos? Pigging out on pizza? Or gobbling gourmet? This is THE weekend for food, friends and flat screen TVs! Everybody's talkin' about it... or Madonna and the halftime show.

I love the excitement of Super Bowl weekend! GO GIANTS! But a piece of my heart breaks... We're all so willing to talk football, food and commercials. Why aren't we that willing to talk Jesus?

Something to think about.
Love,

The best part of the Super Bowl, IMO, is that is signals the end of football and means BASEBALL is near!!!!

I can't say I'm rooting for either but I will tune in for the funny commercials. We always get a kick out of the creativity and the ones that make us laugh. Food will be hubs famous chicken wings and some sliders, maybe some dip I make. Junk city. Will have to limit myself!!!

Karen, wow are you right. It is easy to "shoot the breeze" about football, the election or the weather while the One whose given every player his talent, every politician his position and every rain cloud its water goes unnoticed. Today I want to celebrate Him!

I always enjoy Super Bowl Sunday, after we have our little party with my father-in-law and the kids eat their football cake, they go downstairs and watch the game and I go in my room and read my traditional romance novel that my husband buys me each year just for the occasion. Enjoy!!

Kathy,
Your husband is a sweetheart!!!

If I left the game watching to read, my family would check me for fever! I LOVE FOOTBALL!!!! Though choosing a team to cheer for this weekend was challenging. I was going for the Broncos and/or Packers.

At least the Steelers aren't in it!!!!

Very true.. There is something I've learned, when you talk to someone, what excites them. Something that they will just go on and on talking about and you can just TELL in their eyes this is what they like A LOT. That will probably be where their passion or heart is. Not always, but most of the time. If talking about( or too for that matter) Jesus, whom one claims to love, if you shy away, do you REALLY love Him?

I'm not much of a sports fan. I didn't realize it was super bowl Sunday.. Shows how much I know. haha I could go for a flat screen TV though! Someday. ;)

I'm not interested in the game at all, except for finding out who won so I can understand the talk the next day. We are always skiing on Super Bowl Sunday - it's a great day to be alone on the slopes! I think the reason people are more comfortable talking about sports and celebrities is that it doesn't take much committment. To talk about faith or politics means taking a stand, and facing people who disagree with you. Most people aren't comfortable with that.

Thoughtful answer, Jennifer.

Maybe to refine the question, why do those of us who claim Jesus as Lord of our life get more passionate about food and football? Those things will end, but He will not.

Great topic and a wonderful reminder!

The Book of Mormon says, "Wherefore, I said unto you, feast upon the words of Christ; for behold, the words of Christ will tell you all things what ye should do." I think I'm the only one in America not watching tonight. It's so rare that I have time alone to ponder, study....and I get to read all of your fun blogs via VB instead!

While the Super Bowl may not be aired here in the Philippines, I do know how important that event is to American families. They show it in the news here. And of course, it's also talked about in the web.

Hope you're enjoying the weekend!

I actually got invited to a Super Bowl party, and so my hubby (who is NOT a sports fan) and I actually watched the Super Bowl. Well, I sort of watched, and he played Angry Birds, lol! Very thought-provoking. Amazing the things we are willing to do/learn/sing/talk about- and the things we aren't.
