For the next ten days, several bloggers are working together to write a series of posts called "10 days of Proverbs 31." We hope every reader is blessed by a deeper understanding of the “Proverbs 31 Woman.” If you are unfamiliar with Proverbs 31:10-31, I encourage you to read it today. Then visit the participating blogs each day to learn more. May God bless you as you pursue him and discover more of what He desires for you.
I’ll be focusing specifically on the verses, Proverbs 31:13-16, discovering more about variety in the family. As you read the passage, I pray God will open your heart to the wonder of this passage.
She selects wool and flax
and works with eager hands.
She is like the merchant ships,
bring her food from afar.
She gets up while it is still dark;
she provides food for her family
and portions for her servant girls.
She considers a field and buys it;
out of her earnings she plants a vineyard.
Proverbs 31:13-16
Perhaps, like me when I first read this passage, you are stumped. What does this have to do with variety in the family? Literally read, this passage tells us that the Proverbs 31 woman selects wool and spins it eagerly. I do not spin wool, forget about eagerly. Like a merchant ship, she brings her food from afar. I wonder, does the local grocery store count? Seriously, I only venture to the farmer’s market a few times each year… not all that creative. On and on I read and wondered.
Be assured that as we dig deeper, you will discover a new, fresh heart for your family. If you open your heart and mind to God’s word, He will give you fresh vision for your family.
Please join me in a prayer for today. When you finish praying, listen. Is God nudging you to look into an area of your heart that needs some refining, especially as it comes to how you view your role as “mom”?
Dear Lord,
We adore you. You designed us as women, with a specific purpose and role in the family. Sometimes, we get discouraged by the daily task of cleaning, cooking, car-pooling, commuting, attending and chauffeuring, but discouragement does not come from You. As we walk through these days together, help us understand the role you designed us for. Renew our joy and passion for our families. Strengthen and deepen our commitment to our families. Help us raise kids who love You and want to follow You with all their hearts.
In Jesus’ name I pray,
Amen

Amen to that prayer, Karen!! And I love how, when we look beyond the surface of the words of scripture, we see so much more deeply into the heart and mind of God. I'm looking forward to reading the things the Lord shows you in the next 10 days on bringing variety to the home through this passage!!
Great prayer! I look forward to seeing what God has given you from these scriptures.

Thank you for such a lovely prayer. What a great way to discover and learn more about God then to get together with some of your blogging friends and write about it. Thank you for sharing. My thoughts and prayers are with you in this wonderful project. xo
This verse reminds me that as women, we have great responsibility, that we are capable, and that Heavenly Father is aware of our work and our sacrifices. Thanks for sharing!
